Individual Research Study

Students can pursue individual professional and academic interests through the completion of an Individual Research Study.

Such studies, or "mini thesis's" are rooted in research, should be approximately 15 to 30 pages and include primary and secondary research sources, and a detailed record of all references.

How it works:

  • To gain approval for an Independent Research Study, students must submit a 1-page executive summary outlying their topic and research methodology.
  • Proposals should be submitted after an in-depth planning and investigative process by students and are subject to approval by the course Professor and Coordinator.
  • To finalize their topic, students are encouraged to connect with professors, industry professionals and peers.
  • Students are required to have an Independent Research Study adviser.  Students are responsible for sourcing their own adviser.  Support can be found via the IMBA Career Management Center, IMBA professors and administrative staff.   The name of the adviser must be included in students' proposals.
  • Once approved, students have until the end of Module 4 to submit their Independent Research Study for final evaluation.  Students who fail to submit their study will receive an incomplete.
  • Independent Research Study students are required to present their study in an end-of-year presentation
  • Students can only receive credit for 1 Independent Research Study during the course of their MBA.
